SINS TO AVOID

Bad Discipline
As with most things, discipline is half your success. Only with discipline will you achieve it; constant reinforcement of the things we NEED to do to achieve success is important, according to Dr. Frederick Neff, sports psychologist for the NHL Boston Bruins for 21 years. He too is founding father of ProFormance, a company that caters to the needs of professional athletes and celebrities, amongst other things. Dr. Neff argues that self-discipline leads to good habits that help us achieve our goals. We may not, at first, understand the importance of repetition so we can make good decisions later, but, says Dr. Neff, “The importance of practicing self-discipline cannot be underestimated.”
We all know that self-discipline involves thought processes without which we may become less motivated. Discipline and planning are key factors. You cannot just arrive at the gym and grab some old bell that looks like exercise equipment and think your hot new body is waiting! Work according to an exercise program – the internet provides a good example if you do not want to hire a trainer or advisor. Understand the concept of realistic and achievable goals and pursue them, understanding that you may need to plan your routine around your exercise program – when and how many hours to sleep, when to go to the gym, and so on.
Unrealistic Expectations
Strong buttocks, shapely legs, and toned arms cannot result from only a few days of training. Looking good is every woman’s dream, but understand that without patience you may give up too soon or fall back into old habits or try “bad” advice like unhealthy fast diets.
Let’s take this advice on setting realistic expectations from Pamela Hernandez, ACSM Certified Personal Trainer and ACE Health Coach. According to Pamela, “…slow and steady wins the race.” It’s completely unrealistic to think you can begin a weight loss program and think it happened overnight, as TV shows, adverts for fat burning pills and the like sometimes promise. Instead, set yourself realistic goals and accept that a regular exercise regimen is the answer. Also, eat breakfast – stop starving yourself; quick fixes never give the desired result!

It might also not be a bad idea to be kind to yourself and sometimes accept that not all of us can have the perfect body (bigger can obviously be lovely) and become the next supermodel. If you are born with imperfect genes (let’s face it, most of us are), then you absolutely cannot expect to have the body everybody wants. Accept your limitations, stop hating your body and think about what is less complicated to accomplish. If you find leg exercises difficult, maybe work your core some more? Concentrate on getting the most out of your workout time.
Take Your Eyes Off the Goal
If you don’t remain focused mentally, as mentioned above, you will not achieve success. Our body image is a really personal affair and is commonly the reason behind strong emotions and reactions – it governs these reactions which are often problematic with many highly disciplined people. You plan your meals in advance and maintain your new routine for a while, but then something stops you. You’re too disappointed to continue, you are angry at yourself, you are angry at the world. There’s a name for this, and it is interesting that it comes from poker – it is called “being on tilt” and it is an inherent part of our human nature. Tilt also applies to more than sports and poker: sports, business, personal life, all of them can suffer from tilt.
But that doesn’t mean there isn’t any way to stop it. The leading poker professional on the popular gaming brand PokerStars have listed 5 tips to avoid going on tilt – and by chance they are not exclusive to card games. Understand how to prepare, stay committed, and persevere when playing poker; otherwise, you are setting yourself up for failure. Hard work and staying sharp will pay off but you’ll need willpower; You cannot lose sight of what you want to accomplish and you cannot let your emotions overwhelm you. It is sheer determination and the desire to be the best that makes true champions stand out above the crowd, and it involves being aware of the triggers that fuel you, your breaking points, and leaving your emotional baggage in the past.

Too Much Cardio
We see them on the back roads barely breathing; their knees buckled on the treadmill; they could barely take a step forward. Yes, they’re runners. Don’t get me wrong – people who in fact run because they’re training for a marathon or have been doing it for years as part of a particular training program are incredible and their efforts are absolutely rewarded. Too much running/cardio, however, can in fact eat away at your muscles, and that is possibly not what you want. A nice and sexy body does have muscles. Not everybody’s ideal is Arnold Schwarzenegger, true, but a growing body exhibiting toned, well-ordered, and controlled muscle mass is what we all want: lean mass. The cardio you love is superior to any that are too intense – look at Cassey Ho’s video below! Even light exercise is better than miles and miles on the treadmill, and you know it is going to be easier to follow through. However, please make sure that you seek expert advice if you’re new to weight training, as experts warn about the cons of weight lifting.
If looking great this summer is your goal, then you must accept certain truths: there aren’t any shortcuts, you may must sacrifice certain foods and treats, you may must cut down on drinks, you may must be much more disciplined than you are now. Think of others? An awesome tip to help you stay focused is to get a training partner. Together you can encourage one another when the going gets tough, you can share one another’s small successes and rejoice over the gains. Let your training partner act as your sounding board when you are feeling “low” and permit yourself to compete a bit for better performance. The presence of sports friends will absolutely help you be more committed.
Fad diets
Anyone who tells you a fast fix is the answer is lying! Diets that emphasize fast loss barely, if ever, produce lasting results: For long-term weight loss, crash diets are ineffective and can in fact be harmful. You may initially lose a few pounds on a fast diet, but you’ll in fact, after a while, gain the weight back. Fajar Jackson-Blatner, RD, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, feel there isn’t any magic pill or potion to guarantee weight loss. He says crazy low-calorie diets can lead to weight loss; However, this unbalanced eating pattern often causes dieters to give up and continue their old lifestyle and eating habits which are unhealthy or can even harm your health.
So if you are aiming to lose a few pounds quickly in early summer, you might succeed, but you might be putting your body under lots of stress, which isn’t a good thing. Phenomenal amounts of money are spent annually on diets, but it is possibly best to assume good eating habits and stick to them so your weight does not fluctuate. It’s possibly a good thing to remember that balance is key: Don’t deprive yourself, but stay balanced. Then maybe there is no need to feel pressured to seek quick weight loss advice in early summer. Of course looking good may mean having to watch out about what we eat, but we should not put our bodies under unnecessary stress. There are some great online resource to help you find the best diet for your individual needs. We want to stay healthy at all times, even when we are on a diet.
Summer is here. Look good, feel great, be healthy with a PROPER workout program that YOU will be the envy of all lazy people. When you step onto the beach in a bikini and feel everybody’s eyes following your body in appreciative fashion, know that you are doing something right!
