Surfers progress to more complex wave riding and progress after mastering the basics of surfing: paddling, duck diving, popping, and slashing.
Surf tricks are available for all skill levels. However, without understanding how to turn down and manage the wave line, a surfer cannot proceed to the intermediate phase.
So before you even consider gliding down the Pipeline, perfect and develop your basic surfing skills, learn to read the waves, practice your footwork and watch others land or complete the most complex techniques.
The majority of surfing movements can be done from both the back and front, that’s, when the surfer is facing towards the waves and when facing away from them.

Tricks for Beginner Surfer
Play Down
The most significant surfing maneuver is the bottom turn.
This is the first turn of the wave after you enter, and it lets you channel your speed and momentum onto the open surface in front of you. For many, this is the surf pad because it’s the first turn of the wave after you drop by.
The bottom line is reached when the bottom spin is reached. That is the starting point of everything.
Carve
In open areas of the waves, engraving lets you adjust course and direction. Carving involves putting your weight and strength on the rails of the surfboard.
In other words, you bury the rail in the water, make an arc, and roll.
Carving 360 is an example of variation.
Subtraction
In surfing, subtraction is a vital step. This lets you slow down for good reasons.
This action repositions the surfer in the energy zone and transfers him from the shoulder to the wave pocket.
Variation: Reduce Layback
Tricks for Intermediate Surfer
Broken
A snap, also known as a slash, occurs when the direction of a wave changes dramatically in a pocket or at the crest of a wave.
It produces lovely, dazzling spray buckets over surfers when executed unexpectedly.
The Layback Snap is a variation.
Reduction of the Roundhouse
The spin reduction is probably the most popular and thrilling surfing moves.
This is normally done in small waves with small walls, and allows the surfer to return to curls with a figure-8 surf line, gaining maximum speed and amplitude from the top.
Off-the-Lip
Off-the-lip is a vertical top spin in which a surfer strikes a steep slope, projects half of his board from the lip of the wave, and then drives it drastically downward towards the bottom of the wave while maintaining momentum.

Foam Climb
Surfers can use foam jumpers to ride over broken lips, closed areas, or whitewater that separates the two open sections of the wavefront.
Wanderer
The floater is a classic surfing trick and involves sliding horizontally over the lip of the wave or the foamy part that’s about to break.
Surfers use speed to pass over the top of the crashing wave area and not around it.
Nose
This is the ultimate longboard surfing maneuver as the surfer rides the wave while standing on the nose of the board.
Hang Five, Hang Ten, and other variations are available.
360
360 is a full turn on the wave front. It can be done by turning or carving. In either case, the surfer spins the wave.
Variation: Reverse 360
Kickflip
A kickflip is a skateboard-inspired trick in which the surfer flips his surfboard 360 degrees along an axis running from nose to tail.
Zoltan Torkos was the first to do so.
Tricks for Advanced Surfers
Tube Ride
This is the ultimate surfing maneuver. Barrel riding is the mother of all surfing tricks, and the most thrilling moment a surfer can ever experience.
This entails riding the hollow part of the wave, which is entirely covered by the lip curls. Well-formed tubular waves are very uncommon.
Air/Aerials
Aerial is a surfing motion in which the surfer accelerates, finds a slope, slides off the lip, flies over the wave and lands on the surface of the wave or on plains.
Air 360, Air Reverse, Backflip, 540, and 720 are some variations.
Alley-Oop
Alley-opp is a skateboard-inspired reverse air move.
Superman
Superman is an aerial technique in which a surfer pushes his surfboard down the line, then bounces up, kicks the board, projects it onto the beach, grabs the rail, and reconnects before landing. Alley-opp is a skateboard-inspired reverse air rotation.
Flip Kerrupt
The kerrupt flip is a full rotation alley-oop, combined with mute and trite catches. This was first done by Josh Kerr.
Sushi Rolls
Sushi roll is a combination of superman and rodeo flip. Julian Wilson was the first to accomplish it.
