Mykonos is the best place to dine in style while in Greece. In fact, the vibrant Cyclades Islands are the best place to do anything in style while enjoying a delightfully luxurious vacation in the Aegean Sea. The mix of stylish new hangouts, super cool spots with astonishing views, and astonishing whitewashed buildings make this island the place to go if you are trying to find glamorous St Tropez in Greece. Those who rent luxury villas in Mykonos are on the doorstep of endless dining opportunities. Hedonistic travelers and foodies alike appreciate the high-end cuisine on offer at Mykonos’ many upscale terrace restaurants and bars. Here are five of our favourites.
- AvlitouThodori
Located on PlatisGialos beach, AvlitouThodori boasts probably the greatest locations in Mykonos. Fortunately, the cuisine more than matches the scene and patrons can enjoy Greek classics such as hummus, filo pastry-wrapped feta and grilled halloumi cheese. The seafood is great with freshly caught calamari, octopus and scallops making up a large part of the menu. The décor is modern and minimalist but distinctly Greek – as indicated by the predominance of white in the colour scheme.
- Bill & Coo
Bill & Coo’s Gourmet Restaurant is the restaurant of choice for those who enjoy an immersive dining experience. And if it is sights you want, that is what you will get in abundance! The restaurant is a haven of luxury, perfectly positioned over Megali Ammos Bay with tables by the hotel pool. This is the place to go when you want to indulge your senses because the food is also a revelation. Enjoy the innovative appetizer of cuttlefish ink ice cream cones with parmesan sorbet as you witness probably the most lovely sunsets you’ll ever see. Dishes include Greek-style pasta with lemon confit, ouzo, sea urchin roe and garlic and other delicious Mediterranean dishes created from local produce. Innovative desserts include an infusion of citrus trees with parsley and ouzo and you are invited to cleanse your palate with a special raspberry sorbet made in a lipstick case. It’s a culinary journey with the VIP treatment you will not forget!
- Ling Ling – Hakkasan
Possibly the hippest and classy restaurant on the island, LingLing is a recent addition to Mykonos dining establishments by renowned London restaurateur Hakkasan. It’s like venturing into a secret cave that only a select few know about, but when you get there it is crowded, particularly for late reservations. It’s quite pricey, but again, the ingredients include signature dishes like Wagyu beef with soy sauce and Peking duck with caviar. It’s as prime quality as London restaurants and the dim sum is superb, but this time in a charming outdoor setting. Cocktails are also a highlight, but it is really the ultra-modern decor that catches everybody’s attention. This place is very popular, so do not forget to make a reservation.
- M-Eat
M-Eating is located in a conventional 19th century Mykonian building and provides the building just the right vibe. Chef and owner, Panagiotis Menardos, has drawn on his experience in five-star hotels across the Mediterranean to perfect his culinary technique, which focuses on a contemporary approach to local dishes. There is a fine selection of meat and fish dishes, all superbly presented, in addition to a vegetarian option featuring goat cheese and chic salads. Al fresco dining is available in the charming garden, or on the veranda on summer evenings.
- Buddha Bar and Restaurant
The famous Buddha Bar has found its own little corner in the Greek Islands and it does not disappoint. It enjoys a privileged beachfront location at the Ornos Santa Marina resort where you can hear the gentle crashing of the waves mix with the chill mixture of music that the original Parisian bar is so famous for. The bar decor follows the brand’s signature aesthetic to satisfy its loyal customers. The menu is also in line with its contemporary sister restaurants and includes a Pacific Rim menu with pan-Asian, Californian and European influences, in addition to Mediterranean and Greek fusion cuisine. This is a superb place to watch the fascinating Aegean sunsets in comfort and style.
