You really cannot beat a musical. The novelty of singing along to a track in a movie is actually the better part, next to watching our favourite bold and quirky characters on our TV screens. Hair spray
You really cannot beat watching the much-loved musical Hairspray. Featuring an iconic cast, including John Travolta, Zac Efron, Nikki Blonsky, Amanda Bynes, Queen Latifah, and wow, the list really goes on, no wonder why it is 2007, but set in the ’60s, the favourite is still an enormous hit. Not only are the songs very unique and catchy, but the film covers other aspects such as inequality and variety relating to different topics, but racial inequality was predominant in the 1960s. Turn on Hairspray today and get ready to scream from the top of your lungs “Good morning Baltimore” because it sure is an incredible pastime.
Fat
When summer sweethearts Danny and Sandy end their summer romance on the beach, they know that they won’t see one another again as she has to return to Australia with her parents. Following a change of plans, he ends up staying and enrolling at Rydell High School, which appears to be the same school as Danny. But is their romance set in stone? Or is it Sandy that Danny wants (no pun intended)? Catch performances of favorites like “Grease Lightnin’” by the T-birds and “Look at Me I’m Sandra Dee” by the Pink Lady in this quirky 1970s classic, you might even find yourself dancing along and uh, hand jiving, when they call it!
Frozen
As among the best musical films of all time, Frozen is also one of Disney’s biggest favorites! When princess Annas sister Elsa accidentally uses her powers by turning her environment into ice, an infinite winter begins. However, now it is up to Anna, her boyfriend, a cute reindeer and everybody’s favourite snowman Olaf, to find princess Elsa and save their home. With classics like “Let it Go” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”, you are sure to find yourself singing along to this Disney masterpiece. Fun fact: this film is even more magical to watch with young kids!
High school musical
Let’s return to 2006, also known as the year of the High School Musical phenomenon. If you were a child or teenager in this era, we’re sure the feeling of nostalgia comes back to you after hearing about it. I mean, who would not want to be Troy or Gabriella, or even Sharpay if you are such a sassy kid! The soundtrack for this musical has to be probably the most elite in history, or so we think! With hits like “Get’cha Head in the Game”, “Bop to the Top”, and “Breaking Free”, “We’re All in this Together” to turn on the TV and vote play on High School Musical, trust us, you won’t regret!
Mama Mia!
Greece is all the time an exquisite location for a movie to take place, particularly a musical romantic comedy, oh, and particularly when it features nothing but Abba hits! Calling all Abba lovers, here’s the musical for you! Starring Amanda Seyfried, as Sophie, the bride-to-be, and her mother Donna, played by Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia takes viewers on a musical journey as Sophie tries to find her biological father to walk her down the aisle on her big day. . He posits three potential possibilities after reading his mother’s diary as this whimsical musical takes us through Abba song, after Abba song, on his mission to find his real father. Get the mic out, this is among the best musical movies of the 2000s, and it is sure to blow your mind!
Lion King
OK, we did must throw another old classic into the mix, but The Lion King is timeless, and no, it isn’t just for teenagers! It is loved by many and its soundtrack is recognizable worldwide, and not to mention, young Simba is certainly one of Disney’s most beloved characters! With hits like, “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King”, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Circle of Life”, this much-loved Disney film is certain to entertain. Oh, and how could we forget Timon, Pumba, and Simba’s heartwarming performance from “Hakuna Matata.” This movie really gives us nothing to worry about when we’re engrossed in Disney Magic!
