The moment everybody was waiting for has happened… Johnny Manziel started for the Cleveland Browns. After Brian Hoyer’s poor showing in last Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, Mike Pettine felt it was “natural to lean the other way given the result.”
Brian Hoyer, who has a QBR of 76.4, completes less than fifty percent of his passes and threw up 8 interceptions in the past month. In last Sunday’s game, he did not throw for a touchdown, instead he threw two interceptions. Bad pitches and bad footwork make for bad combinations and land you on the bench.
After a dropped pass to Josh Gordan in the third quarter, Johnny Manziel was seen muttering on the sidelines, “I’m gonna ——- hit him.” Manziel impatiently sat on the sidelines, waiting for his chance to show the NFL what he really can do. That’s the scary part for the Browns, they’re Don’t know what he can do.
It’s not the NCAA anymore, it is the NFL defense and the NFL will be breathing down his neck and anyone who watched him during his Texas A&M years knows he had a habit of reaching into his pocket. That can be a good thing; that can be a bad thing. He was more mobile than Hoyer with stronger arms and fast energy. We watched it during a Buffalo Bills game. He’s more entertaining, that’s for sure.
Manziel was in the spotlight right before the playoffs and a must-win situation against the Cincinnati Bengals. There’s no pressure… He’s got something to prove and a job he wants to keep. All eyes are on you.
