This was not only the first Ferrari with four-wheel drive, but, more importantly, a model that broke with the past, effortlessly combining extreme sports car performance with the flexibility and usability of the original GT and boasting a highly innovative design. .
Every area of FF is brimming with innovation and the engine is no exception, the first GDI V12 to be mated to a seven-speed F1 dual-clutch gearbox. The V12 unleashes a huge 660 CV at 8,000 rpm, and a maximum torque of 683 Nm at 6,000 rpm with 500 Nm already available at just 1,000 rpm. This ensures extreme sports car performance figures, with a 0-100 km/h sprint covered in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 335 km/h. Efficiency has also been significantly improved, with fuel consumption it now achieves just 15.4 liters per 100 km, and CO2 emissions of 360 g/km, a 25 percent reduction compared to the previous V12, thanks partly to the HELE (High Emotion-Low Emissions) System which incorporates Stop&Start technology.
Uniquely, the FF also guarantees this excellent performance on terrain with a really low grip coefficient, thanks to Ferrari’s patented 4RM four-wheel drive system. Torque is still transmitted by the rear wheels, but the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) ensures that as much as is required is also transferred to the front wheels when needed on low-grip surfaces. FF intelligently distributes torque to each of the four wheels individually, thanks to the undeniable fact that all dynamic vehicle controls (E-Diff, F1-Trac and PTU) have been integrated onto a single CPU.
An excellent sporty ride is ensured by the FF’s transaxle architecture (mid-engine front with gearbox above the rear axle) and 53% weight to the rear of the car. Careful care has been taken in lightening the engine (new castings), bodyshell (new aluminum alloy and production process) and a number of other components. The interior has also been optimized through the use of high-tech materials such as magnesium for the seats. Third-generation Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes are now lighter and more lasting, with nearly negligible wear during normal road use. All of these innovations combine to produce a really outstanding weight-power ratio of 2.7 kg/CV, a new benchmark for this sort of car.
Styled by Pininfarina, the FF’s lines effortlessly reflect its trademark uncompromising balance between sportiness and flexibility. It can comfortably accommodate four people in bodyhugging seats and a spacious cabin. The 450 liter trunk can even be extended up to 800 liters when the rear seats are folded independently. This means that the FF offers more trunk space not only than any other car in its category, but lots of it four doorssaloon too.
Everything inside the FF is tailor-made particularly to the needs and tastes of its drivers with a choice of six exclusive colours and the best Frau aniline leather specifically treated to enhance its natural softness. The FF’s outstanding specifications enhance the in-car enjoyment for all four occupants. Features include a new rear-seat infotainment system with two screens for TV and DVD viewing and a 1,280 Watt, 16-channel stereo system with Quantumlogic Surround Sound.
