Are you thinking of starting your own blog? Blogging is an awesome hobby for many people and a place where they can share their thoughts and feelings. Some people choose to blog full time – because you can generate a good income from one blog, once it has been created. Or they run their blog as a hobby activity.
Starting a blog is not as difficult as you might think at first. To start with you need to decide how you’re going to build your website and then start writing some articles for it. If you are not sure what to write about, pick something you are passionate about – this way you will be motivated to keep writing in the long term. If it is not something you can say you really enjoy, you will quickly lose interest in writing and be unable to maintain weekly blog posts.
Blogs can be based on anything from marketing and finance magazines to blogs lead a healthy lifestyle or fashion. The possibilities are endless. To help you start your own blog, we have put together three different tips.
High quality images are important
Don’t set yourself up for failure and use low quality images. Images are important and can add a whole new dynamic to your article. They support what you write and help improve the reader’s experience – plus Google will rank your website better if you use good quality images. You can get good quality images from a number of places, one of which is premium stock photos, or call the company you are writing about and ask if they’ve an image you can use. When using these images, ensure they’re the correct size and work on mobile devices as well. Remember, your readers will view your content from a number of devices so images should be appropriate for most platforms.
Getting your website built
In today’s world, creating a website has never been easier – particularly a blog as it requires less maintenance and coding. There are many website builders out there that you can use to create your website. WordPress widely used and neither are Wix or Squarespace, all three have builders and templates included so you can do it yourself. If you are not tech-savvy enough to use one of these builders, you can all the time hire a freelancer or agency to build a website for you. Depending on your budget and how serious you are about blogging, using a freelancer is usually a lot cheaper. Plus, most freelancers can start working on your new blog right away, while agencies tend to have longer waiting times.
Write a few subject that interests you
When starting a blog, you need time to attract an audience. For some blogs, it can take months for them to reach the first 1,000 views of the month. For this reason alone, it is important to keep writing your articles and be persistent and consistent with publishing. To stay consistent, write about subjects that interest you. If you are not passionate about what you are writing, it is going to be hard to inspire yourself to publish every week. And without consistency, it is going to be difficult to grow your reader base.
Social media is important
Alongside your blog, you want to ensure you have social media channels. Social media channels are great for sharing your latest news – like when you publish a new blog entry – bringing in new readers and showing employers that you’re a legitimate business. There are tons of social media channels out there, so rather than trying to grow all of them, start with one or two, then add others down the line. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok and Pinterest are the top five right now in addition to Youtube if you’re going to make regular videos alongside your articles. When creating your social media channels, do not publish anything, instead, try and create a social media calendar that’s consistent and themed.
