As the years pass and styles change, it’s a stressful and very stressful job for designers to not only stay current but also to create and offer visionary works to the world. We will all the time have names and design houses like Chanel, Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Dolce & Gabbana ringing in our ears and hearts, but there will all the time be newcomers struggling to make a name for themselves. The designers below are only a few that I’ve seen and liked. They have also been recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) as outstanding designers and folks to watch out for.
Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne
PUBLIC SCHOOL
Designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxmell Osbourne, born and raised in New York City have done an impressive job of bringing individuals unfamiliar with the NYC lifestyle and street style to their hometown and aesthetic. Their label PUBLIC SCHOOL is an awesome representation of the high energy and allure of edgy men together with women’s clothing. With 100% of their production done by individual hands in the New York area, it was easy for these two designers to stick to their original style. Chow and Osborne’s portrayal of prep school clothing combined with the rugged curbs made it easier for wearers to feel snug enough in their outfits. With a consistent palette of black, white and grey, their collection is minimalistic yet true to a robust New York edge and confidence. My most favourite concept from their collection is their attention to the layers and grades of the garment. With most looks consisting of up to 3-4 parts, the gradation of the fabric and the level of the garment from head to toe makes each look effortless and very uniform. Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne have been doing a wonderful job since 2008 of tweaking the ideal ‘public school’ style and turning it into an appropriate, street-acceptable look than most people can afford to wear! They can be seen on the list of Nominees and Honorees for this year’s Swarovoski Award for Womenswear by the CFDA.
PUBLIC SCHOOLS can be purchased as specialty boutiques and malls including Barney’s New York, Harvey Nichols, Isetan, Odin, Maxfield, and Louis Boston.
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Line
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen founded their brand, The Row in 2006. Originally created in Los Angeles, the two took the name and found their place in New York City. Similar to Public School, the collection, other than the bags, is fully produced right here in the American dorms. The twins wanted to create a collection that would make for an amazing wardrobe consisting of gorgeous basics with a high degree of chic and elegance. This is finished very easily. The Row houses some of the most lovely pieces produced from the purest fabrics. With silks you can virtually hear on the runways, knits and cashmere you haven’t got to touch to know its softness. The Olsen girls pay attention not only to choice of material but also to construction and craftsmanship. Their jackets and coats are perfectly designed to fit feminine bodies in such a way that they can make any woman feel lovely and splendid. Similar to the designers, their collections are soft with a hint of mystery and serenity. It may be the flow of the fabric that leaves you breathless and in awe, but I personally believe it is the cleanliness of each part that makes you want to own and appreciate every bit of clothing that’s produced and shipped to the runway. The Row offers everything your modern woman could want. It has comfort, style, ease and seduction. If you are searching for astonishing astonishing basics, The Row is the design house to look at. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen can even be seen on the shortlist for this year’s CFDA Awards for Womenswear Designer of the Year nominees and honorees. This brand is available in 188 exclusive doors in 37 countries.
Thom Browne
Thom Brown New York
Thom Browne started his steady journey back in 2001 when his first doors opened in the fall of that year. During these times, he was known for his impeccably tailor-made menswear that was all handcrafted. Over time, she’s grown, creating a Spring/Summer 2004 ready-to-wear collection, and then launching a women’s collection in 2011. What I’m most enthusiastic about are her new bold and attention-grabbing designs. and entirely revolutionary. If you have ever watched a Thom Browne runway show, you will never forget it or think of a suit the same way again. The way he exaggerated the suit’s own structure and played with the human form was simply mind-blowing! With each bit so structured and attention to detail from the piping along the hem of her jackets to the masks and cartoon like accessories she wears on the models she sends down the runway, you’d think you’d fallen off the bunny. hole and just walked into Wonderland.
His ready-to-wear is nothing but the essence of an English gentleman/woman. The body-fitting European custom suit is as if she harkened back to the ‘by appointment only’ days of her early career. Thom Browne has made audiences rethink your modern suit, to the extent that classic Brooks Brothers have made room for Browne to design capsules of menswear and womenswear for their creative concept lab. Browne hits all designer levels from high fashion glitz to dapper suits. Definitely one to look at and buy a ticket to the new world of fashion.
Thom Browne can be seen on the list of nominees and awardees for this year’s CFDA Awards for Menswear Designer of the Year.
Ryan Roche

Ryan Roche started as a kids’s designer, but because his friends insisted on wanting pieces in their own sizes, he made his way into women’s ready-to-wear by buying his first collection by Jovovich in the fall of 2011. The Roche collection is the epitome of him. hometown style. Coming from Idaho before her big move to New York in 2004, her collection is a reflection of the Idaho sky in lovely hues of wild blues and soft pinks. Her sweaters and knitwear are made up of pieces every woman wants to roll up and never come up with again. From light scarves and flying cardigans to chunky sweaters and ponchos, Roche has managed to perfectly encapsulate the mature woman. With a straightforward neutral palette with pops of vibrant color, the collection is soft and subtle. She’s having fun with the texture of the knits and layering pieces that are perfect for fall/winter. Roche even has a fantastic knit dress that hugs the figure and flatters virtually every body type. As a mother herself, you can tell that Roche thinks that fashion and style should all the time be intertwined with comfort and accessibility. Its lightweight knit is ideal for ladies in every state to enjoy and feel lovely without worrying about being restricted and bound by stiff fabrics, loops and ties. Roche’s chic and cozy ready-to-wear style takes the world by storm and makes you want to look at the country side while slipping into one of her cozy cardigans with a cup of tea and a good book under a starry night sky. Ryan Roche is also on the shortlist for this year’s CFDA Awards nominations and awardees for the Swarovski Award for Womenswear
