If you have already decided your dream career, and you have made it onto the court, then it is time to take things to the next level! Of course, you are pleased with yourself right now, and that is all the time worth remembering. But you still have a long way to go before you are utterly pleased with your success, right? So, let’s start at the start, and consider where you can take your career next with the ideas below.
Meet the Right People
Many people say it is not what you know, it is who you know, and for the most part, they’re right! If you have the connections in the right places, you can go much further than someone with the same skill set as you – but only if you really have all the mandatory knowledge to back it up. You do, so don’t be concerned!
So clearly you’re a trained and educated person, and you have the makings of a terrific career at the basket. But without a little little bit of networking, it is going to be a lot harder to get to the top of your field. Try to diversify your network as much as possible, and contact as many people as you can find in your same industry, to be sure you in fact get your antenna out.
Develop Special Skills
In many industry areas, it is all about specialization. If you want to succeed where few others have, you must have a special interest, or ‘niche’ as many people say. Without this one special skill, it is going to be difficult to get as far as possible, even if you have a number of skills that already get you quite far.
So consider what you do best, and where you could go if you focused on this one skill particularly. For example, if you’re on the physical plane, you can look inside sports specific training if you have one discipline you prefer over the others. You can become good at this one sport, and it can be something you are very familiar with!
Always Ask for More
Now, asking for more may sound like a step too far to you but it is among the main pillars of success. After all, people do not mind readers. And in showing a little little bit of initiative, you can really impress! It shows that you have the hunger for a career that actually matters, and you can quickly convince someone to work with or mentor you if you ask them directly about the opportunity. Don’t beat around the bush, and do not be afraid to ask questions – if you do not ask, you regularly will not understand!
If you want to advance your career in the near future, be sure you talk to the right people, focus on the right skills, and have the confidence you can count on. It may take time to accomplish all three, but it is worth it!
