Stunning fashion icon Zang Toi presented his S/S 2015 collection during this week’s New York Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. It’s not just a celebration to see all her incredible designs, but a celebration for her 25th yearth year. Many came out for his birthday including stars like Ivana Trump, Whoopy Goldberg, Julie Macklowe, Vincent de Paul, Nigel Barker and wife Cristen Barker.
Toi named his birthday collection, “A Privileged Life: The American Dream,” as he showcased what’s coming to us for spring. Accompanied by the sound of Lana Del Ray’s “National Anthem”, Lenny Kravitz’s “American Woman”, Ray Charles’ “America the Beautiful” and Neil Diamond’s “Coming to America”, these songs could not have been a better option to round out the show. itself as a whole. Starting on the runway, with a red and white striped design for both the men’s and girls’s models, Toi absolutely embodies the patriotism of the American dream. Another highlight of her collection is her long dress in shades of purple, black, white and emerald but we cannot forget the motorbike vest either!
Starting at the age of 18, Toi moved from his native Malaysia and found his home in New York a year later, pursuing his passion for fashion at Parsons School of Design followed by the opening of his atelier, House of Toi. Since then, he has been able to win over the hearts of many with his consistent drive to give his best. Over the last 25 years we have seen Toi work miracles and an appropriate celebration for everything he has done is well deserved.
As the show ended, photographer Richard Renda of Totally Cool grabbed the designer and walked him down the runway, surprising him with a birthday cake as everybody joined in to sign happy birthday.
Happy Birthday Zang Toi! We cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us over the coming season.
