2017 marks a century, and for a hundred years, they’ve been a wardrobe staple for both men and ladies.
Although they started life as a men’s basketball shoe, at some point, the ladies of the world decided they wanted to get in on the action. In an interview with Coupon box, Elizabeth Semmelhack (of the BATA shoe museum in Toronto) stated that Converse found their way into the ladies’s wardrobe Because it’s a men’s shoe. Indeed, Semmelhack told Coupon Box that ladies have been borrowing from their boyfriends’ cabinets for hundreds of years.
General AllStar style hasn’t changed much for the last 100 years, but while it has maintained a classic design, there’s now a pair of Chucks for everybody, for each occasion. There are lots of various options for the classic sneaker: high or low top, canvas or leather, matt or metallic, easy or neon. We’ve also seen introductions All-Star Collaboration: Converse has teamed up with some of our favourite brands and designers to bring you high fashion and crazy stuff.
The Converse All Star is a very iconic shoe, so it is no surprise that some of our beloved celebrities have sported the shoe. Here are some of our favourite All-Star icons:
Weak
In the ’60s, our favourite British cultural icon would team up her symbolic lashes and cropped pixie cut with a pair of brightly coloured Chucks. Who better to pull men’s basketball shoes into the world of high fashion than Twiggy?
Joan Jett
From the bright colours of the ’60s to the dark and seedy ’70s, Joan Jett shows us that we haven’t got to dress for men to look sexy. He says he wears Chucks because of them not pretentious or showy like plenty of 70s shoes, and boy does she look incredible in them.
Demi Moore
Moving on to the 90s, America’s beau Demi Moore rocked her Chucks. For years, Demi has continually changing its appearance but we think he’d still be killing it with a pair of All-Stars.
Winona Ryder
If anyone can do I stole these clothes from my girlfriend’s wardrobe look it is Winona Ryder, and a pair of Chucks complete the look. Known as 90s style icon, Winona is known for her “out there” fashion choices; from a really short pixie cut to rocking the Oscars in a $10 vintage dress.
Kristen Stewart
Kristen’s style has often been compared to Joan Jett’s, so it was clear she would have a pair or two All-Stars. in a interview with Perez Hilton, Kristen also admits that one of the reasons she loves Converse so much is because they’re comfy and she wants to spend time signing autographs for fans. Ah.
Rihanna
Queen of R&B Rihanna is our ultimate All-Star icon. Back in 2012, her signature style was a cute skirt with a pair of Converse sneakers, and since then, even although her style is totally different, she’s still been seen rocking her Chucks.
Rhianna’s goodbyes never end!
