When you run a business, you really must take security seriously. Failure to do so can totally destroy your business in additional ways than you can imagine.
Below you’ll find some of the most common, and often disastrous, consequences of not being sufficiently safety conscious when you run your company:
People can get hurt
The most serious consequence of an absence of security in business is, obviously, that somebody can be seriously injured. As a business owner, I’m sure you do not want anyone to get hurt while they work for you or protect your business, but if you do not take your health and safety responsibilities seriously. Then that’s a real possibility that could occur. It’s something you do not want in your conscience, so you must act accordingly.
If you do not run you business as safe as possible, skimp on bundle pallet that would stop chemical leaks or reduce staff training costs, for example, then accidents can and will occur. And when they do, it will end up being PR that may work against you, particularly if it turns out you do not take your health and safety responsibilities seriously.
When you don’t run your company safely and according to the rules and regulations set forth in your industry, you run the risk of litigation. If someone is injured because of your negligence or inattention, then they may instruct their lawyer to pursue you for damages, and that could put your business at serious risk of bankruptcy if you are not careful.
Lower productivity levels
On a less serious note, if you do not invest money and time into making your company as secure as possible, you may inadvertently lower your company’s productivity levels at the same time.
How could this occur? Because when your employees work in an unsafe environment, they will be very aware of it, and they’ll suffer because of poor morale. When employees aren’t happythey are not as productive as they used to be, so saving money on security measures can in fact cost extra money in the long run, in additional ways than one.
Higher insurance costs
If you do not take safety seriously then as mentioned above, accidents can and will occur and when they do, not only will your company suffer from bad PR and potentially litigation, but your insurance premiums will also balloon. In fact, if an investigation finds that you were willful of negligence, then you could struggle to get business insurance at all, which can leave your company in a really vulnerable state.
As you can see, an absence of safety can spell disaster for your company, so whatever you do, take health and safety very seriously and be sure you comply with all the rules and regulations in your industry.
